Instonians get creditable 2-2 draw at Banbridge.

Banbridge took an early one goal lead however within ten minutes Chris Kirk had levelled matters.

From Instonians first short corner Mark Gleghorne fired home into the top corner of the net with a bullet like drag flick.
Half time 2--1 to Instonians.

Bann came quickly into the game in the second half and got the equaliser from a corner which deflected of an Instonian stick into the net.

Both sides had chances to win the game but a draw was probably a fair result in a game which was end to end.

Instonians back in the mix for Anderson Cup Semi Final place

Following a good 3 goals to 1 victory over Mossley at Mossley on Sat last the 1stXI now have an Anderson Cup semi final spot in their own hands. With two home games to come against Cookstown and Bangor it now up to the squad to produce two good performance and get the points necessary to qualify for the semi final.

The importance of a large squad was again emphasised when on Sat Instonians did not have the services of Richard Johnson, Gavin Currie, Stuart McWilliams, Stephen Reid all injured and Julian Lewis on holiday but still managed to do the business in a very workman like manner. Well done to all those who were in the squad on Saturday. ( Despite the absences from the 1stXI squad the 2ndXI managed a very creditable 3--1 win over Raphoe at Shaw's Bridge so well done to all involved on the 2nds.)

Anthony Lewis won the Podium man of the match award and with Stephen Symington gave a great performance in the heart of the defence.
Mark Wainwright returned from injured and gave a good mid field performance and together with Mark Irwin provided the Instonians attack with plenty of ball.
The goals came from a Chris Barnes trademark penalty corner a Chris Barnes penalty stroke and a Mark Irwin switched penalty corner. Instonians had been one goal down after 15 minutes but always played with confidence and won the game with reasonable ease in the end.

Instonians lose to Bangor

Last Saturday against Annadale the 1stXI served up a champagne performance but on Saturday at Bangor it was flat coke. We came expected so much from the squad who had given us so much to cheer 7 days previous.

The game started at a fast pace with Bangor very quick on the counter attack after 6 minutes we were a goal behind when the Bangor right mid field found himself with not an Instonian defender in sight and he laid on a simple cross for a Bangor forward to give goalkeeper Richard Johnston no chance. Within a further two minutes we again gave Bangor too much space and another right wing cross made the score 2-0.

For the next twenty minutes Inst dominated the game and Bangor were happy to retreat into their own half and defend their lead.
On 35 minutes Mark Irwin unlocked the Bangor defence and Mark Gleghorne made it 2-1 going in at halftime and the Instonian support hope for a second half revival.

Whilst Inst dominated the second half Bangor are very quick to launch counter attacks and they have forwards with pace and it from such a counter attack and a carelessly defended free that we were 3-1 down. Our hopes of even getting a draw were quickly disappearing as three penalty corners brought us no joy and it was to Chris Barnes to score a fine solo goal on 68 Minutes to give us some hope. 3-2.

When you are chasing a goal that final two minutes goes quickly and we were left to rue defensive errors and missed opportunities and so the three points we had hoped for were gone.

Now Banbridge at home next Sat at 1-45pm is a must win game we can only hope for a performance similar to the one against Annadale and not the one we had on Sat at Bangor.

Come on Boys lets have that win.
