School Finals In the schools hockey finals competed for on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week R.B.A.I. 2nd XI lost the Prior Shield to Banbridge 2nd XI 3-1, while the school 1st XI delivered an emphatic victory of rivals Banbridge bringing the McCullough Cup back to the school once again with a 6-1 score line. It is even more impressive when you find out that this win was achieved with a half-time score of 1-1, and without going to extra time!
Official Pitch Opening - 16th December 2006 Plans are in place for the Official Pitch Opening Ceremony on Saturday next 16th December. All current and former players, family, friends and supporters are invited to attend the Official Opening and to be part of the next chapter in the history of Instonians Hockey Club and R B A I. The format of the day will be as follows:
Invited guests will be entertained to lunch in the club house following the Pitch Opening Ceremony. If you can come for some part of the day to see the new facilities then you will be more than welcome. This is the first time in the history of the Instonians Club that all three sports Cricket, Rugby and Hockey will share the same facilities at the Shaw’s Bridge Sports Complex and the Hockey Club are very appreciative of the support, encouragement and help given to us by the Cricket and Rugby sections. We would also like to acknowledge the support give by Cooke Rugby and Sports Assoc in helping us arrive at this important milestone. To the Board of Governors at R.B.A.I. we will always be indebted as without their financial commitment and their encouragement in this joint venture project we would not have a state of the art playing facility at Shaw’s Bridge. We have also received both financial support and encouragement from many whose kindness we will always remember as we strive to play our full part within the Instonians family both now and in the future. We look forward to seeing many of you on Saturday and if the current players can drop into Shaw’s Bridge at some stage after their games on Sat then we will be their together as a club.

Irish Senior Cup Preview - Instonians v Pembroke Wanderers
This is a big game for Instonians and the team will be looking
for success and an extended run in the Irish Senior Cup which has been won
four times in recent years. The last success was in 2004 although the side did
also get to the final in 2005 but lost out to Lisnagarvey.
Pembroke are strong opposition with several International in
their ranks and Paddy Brown will need to be on the top of his game to cancel
out the threat of prolific goal scorer Justin Sherrif. Just the same the
Pembroke defence will be aware of the goal scoring capability of Chris Barnes,
Andrew Cousins and Aaron Gill and will have their work cut out to stop our
attack scoring. So all in all an interesting match between two top
sides.
Home advantage will help but it has to be remembered that our
players are still getting accustomed to our new Shaw's Bridge pitch so it will
all depend on how we tackle the job on the day.
A big crowd would give great encouragement to the players so if
you are not involved in a match on Sat come along and give the 1stXI your
support.
You could actually make it a double header on Saturday with the
1stXV having an All Ireland League match at 2.30pm and you could make it a
full day out by taking in the 2ndXI game against Banbridge at Shaw's Bridge at
4.00pm.
Weekend match schedule
RBAI progress to McCullough Cup final The school beat Cookstown their arch rivals over the past few years to reach the McCullough Cup final against Banbridge next Wednesday after a thrilling semi-final today. With two minutes left on the clock Inst were trailing 5-4, only to come back to win the tie 6-5 after extra time!
