Under 11 B’s continue winning run!

A young Under 11 side moved to the top of their league by defeating Derriaghy at Bladon by 22 runs on Wednesday 25th July.

The Seahorses started poorly, with both openers (Stuart and Paddy) back in the hutch with 13 on the board. However Jonny Mitchell and TJ batted sensibly, progressing the score to 25 for 2 after10 overs before TJ was bowled with the score on 30.

James Hunter entered the fray and watched both Ben and James Lambert depart without scoring. At 33 for 5 after 15 overs it looked as if 50 was a long way off. Next to depart was Jonny Mitchell for a well compiled 13, leaving us on 38 for 6 with 4 overs remaining.

James Hunter took advantage of some loose leg-side bowling to despatch the ball to the boundary with frequency. Jack supported well, looking for singles to give James the strike.  An excellent partnership of 35 in 4 overs took us to a respectable 73 for 6.There was some great running between the wickets, particularly from Jonny, James H and Jack.

J Mitchell 13, J Hunter 29n.o., J Dickson 6 n.o.

In reply, Derriaghy struggled from the outset. Paddy Jack and James Lambert started accurately, with James getting the breakthrough in his second over. James continues to grow on confidence each game and is an exciting fast-bowling prospect.

James Rose (P4) replaced Paddy, with his usual array of spin options and Jack and Michael Glasgow bowled tightly, both unfortunate not to take a wicket.

Ben claimed the wickets of 3 of the top 5, all clean bowled with a testing spell.

The innings came to an exciting climax---

After a good first spell, the ball was tossed to James Rose to bowl the last over. After 3 "dot balls" he took a wicket with each of the next 2 balls. With James on a hat-trick, the field closed in, only for the Derriaghy batsman to lob the ball into a gap between two fielders! Great effort James.

Derriaghy closed on 51 for 9.

A super display of varied spin bowling from James earned him the Man of the Match Trophy, marginally beating James Hunter to the honours!

The fielding was mostly good and the bowlers only conceded 7 wides.

J Lambert 2-6, J Rose 2-6, B Crothers 3-10.

Another "A" team defeated.
