The boys beat Templepatrick by 4 wickets on Friday 1st September at the Cloughan.

Templepatrick chose to bat having won the toss and started steadily. Openers Matthew Peake and Ben Crothers bowled some good deliveries but the Templepatrick openers were in a positive frame of mind and capitalized on anything loose. James Lambert and Sam McLarnon partnered, with James getting the breakthrough with the score on 38 from 8 overs. The introduction of the spin duet of TJ Pallin and James Rose put the batters under pressure and forced mistakes. James accounted for batters 3, 4 and 5. TJ in particular beat the bat on numerous occasions. The Templepatrick innings closed on 92-8 as the long tail struggled to score runs.

In reply, Sam McLarnon was adjudged lbw in the 3rd over, lbw. Despite the loss, Ben Beattie stuck to his task as the run rate stayed consistently over 5 per over. James Lambert partnered Ben as he brutally punished anything short. Ben departed for a fine 48, to allow James Rose to smash the winning boundary in the 18th over.

Thanks to Templepatrick for the game and well done boys to the Instonians players on an excellent season. Not the performance we were looking for in the final, however finals are about results. Another piece of silverware for the Instonians Youth trophy cabinet.
