1stXI back in the Premier League Title Race with great 4-1 win over Bangor
On a cold and frosty evening in front of a good crowd at Shawsbridge the 1stXI recorded an excellent 4-1 win over Bangor.
With an 8.15pm start it was always going to be doubtful if the game would finish.
Well done to umpires Eamon McFerran and Gareth Herron who allowed it to finish with a slight doubt over pitch conditions for only the last 5 minutes.

Bangor as their top of the league position indicate provided strong opposition and started well keeping the Inst defence on their toes.
After 10 minutes  Inst came more into the game in what can be described as their most disciplined performance of the season.

With John Watson back in the side Inst were able to attack at pace down the wings and first half goals from Ben Palmer and Dane Ward saw us go in 2-0 up at half time.
It had been a good team performance but special mention to Adam Kyle for a great mid field run which saw him set up our second goal.
A great piece of skill from Chris Barnes on the edge of the circle where he was unfortunate not to score.
Chris beat three defenders lobbed the ball over Andy Seay in the Bangor goal only to see it go over the bar.

Inst started strongly in the second half and a foul by a Bangor defender in the circle saw an award of a penalty stroke and Ward put Inst 3—0 ahead.
It was now all about hoping the surface continued to be playable but as the temperature had remained constant play correctly continued.

Inst had a good second half keeping constant pressure on the Bangor defence and Kelso was unfortunate not to score following a great move when his angled deflection shot struck the goal keeper who knew little about.

Another great move from mid field involving five player saw John Watson make it 4-0 to Inst.
Bangor did come back to score just before the end to make it 4-1 but the three points went to Inst to move us one point ahead of Bangor at the top of the Premier but Bangor do have a match in hand.

Inst have three Premier League games still to play so Instonians, Bangor and Kilkeel are all still very much in the title race.  Keep an eye out for these remaining games on the website.
