Under 13’s lose to CSNI

The 13a’s lost to a strong CSNI side at Stormont on Monday 11th June

Instonians won the toss and despite an excellent batting wicket, chose to bowl first. Rory Ellerby claimed the first wicket in his first over however this brought together Harry Dyer and Ryan Hunter. Despite each giving early chances, they batted well together. This pair are the top two NCU under 13 batsmen and have got the better of our bowling attack on a few occasions now. After their departure, the run rate reduced significantly, leaving Inst to regret missed opportunities. Pick of the bowlers was Tom Crothers, with Rory and Lorcan Donnelly claiming a wicket each. The innings closed on 164, which was a very achievable target on a good track with lightning fast outfield.

In reply, CSNI struck in the 4th over when skipper Rory was bowled. This brought Amy Hunter in to partner George Palmer. George batted fluently as the pair put on 50 before losing Amy for an excellent 33 in the 12th over. With the score on 75, the required run rate had increased. However Inst were by now regretting the decision to bowl as they found the pace and bounce of the grass wicket quite different. With 67 required from the last 5 overs, it proved too much as the innings reached 143 for 3, despite a late flurry from Jacob Boyd.

Two strong sides with CSNI claiming the edge once again. We now have the opportunity for revenge in the Banoge Cup. With an improved performance in the field, hopes are high.

Thanks to CSNI for the game.
