Important Win

23rd July 2018

On the back of a Senior Cup semi-final defeat and two big losses in the league, not to mention their chronic injury problems, Instonians travelled to play a very important league match against bottom club Armagh at the Mall on Sunday.

It was more than opportune therefore that two players chose this match to set new personal best performances. A maiden century from Jordan McClurkin and a maiden fifty from James Metcalfe (52) who put on a century opening stand, and good backup from skipper Andrew White (57) set Armagh a big total of 281 to chase. Jordan's 109 came off only 55 balls to really put Instonians in command whilst batting.

The bowlers then took over. Armagh got off to a bad start being 2-2wks after one over, and 30-4wks after 6 overs. Instonians maintained their grip on the match, eventually bowling the home team out for 139 to win by 142 runs, thus keeping Armagh rooted to the foot of the table. Shane Getkate was the top bowler with 3-28, and was well-supported by James Magee (3-39), and Andrew White (2-19).
