The boys progressed to the Quoile Cup Final with a strong display against Muckamore to win by 151 runs in front of an excellent crowd at Shaw’s Bridge on Wednesday 25th July.

Captain Ben McCausland won the toss and chose to bat on a cracking grass wicket. A steady opening start between Michael Hollway and Will Park brought the score to 55 without loss after 10 with Will the dominant partner. However after the halfway mark, both stepped up a gear and brought up the 100 partnership after 15 overs. Will departed in the 16th for a fantastic 62-a stand of 112. Meanwhile Michael was opening his shoulders and finding the boundary with frequency. Ben McCausland wasted no time, striking the ball to all parts of the ground in a rapid 46 from only 13 scoring shots. Ben and Michael plundered an impressive 90 runs from the last 5 overs.

In reply, Muckamore got off to the worst possible start with Max Willmott and Michael claiming a wicket each in their first overs. However by the end of Max’s 2nd over, the game was virtually over with Max accounting for 5 of the top 6(including a hat-trick) in a superb spell of pace bowling. Everyone had a bowl with Matthew McAreavey and Ben claiming a wicket each. Luke Crothers claimed 2 wickets in a good spell. Ben Walsh, Evan Hogg, James Nelson, Frank Hollway, Evan Hogg and Will all bowled tightly without success. To their credit, Muckamore didn’t give up and battled hard until the final wicket fell in the 19th over.

Thanks to Muckamore for the game and our fantastic mums who continue to host brilliantly (Suzanne Willmott’s baking is now becoming legendary in NCU cricket circles)
