U11s complete unbeaten season

The under 11a’s completed a fantastic season with a 31 run victory over CSNI in the league final and in doing so claimed their third piece of silverware.

Ben McCausland lost the toss however CSNI surprisingly chose to insert us-a decision they may well have regretted.

Openers George Craigan and Will Park looked assured with George in top form as Will was happy to play the support role. Untroubled by the CSNI attack, the runs flowed until George retired for an excellent 31. Will followed soon after for a hard-working 13. Ben McCauland’s first ball was dispatched for 6 as he looked set to continue his rich vein of form however Adam Leckey claimed his wicket with a simple caught and bowled as Ben tried to dominate. With the score on 73 for 2 from 10, 150 plus was the target. Michael Hollway played some sublime shots in a quality knock, before playing across a straight one as he pushed towards retirement. Darcy Donnelly and Max Willmott batted nicely to complete the innings with some great calling and running as the innings closed on 147.

The CSNI reply started steadily against an accurate opening attack of Max and Michael, however a bowling changed allowed Ben McCausland to reap revenge on Adam Leckey, clean bowling him with a lovely Yorker. At the other end, James West batted cautiously as George claimed the wicket of Harry Orde. At the halfway stage, CSNI were 73 for 2 however the Instonians ranks were calm as they knew that another wicket or two would seal the game. When Will bowled Olly Dyer, the pressure mounted on the talented James West. Another fine Ben Walsh spell contained him well. Luke Crothers entered into the attack in the 14th over. A lovely in-swinger to the left hander hit the top of James’ off stump to end his innings , crucially meaning that he could not bat again at the end. When Luke claimed his second victim, CSNI had it all to do at 92 for 5. The strength in depth in the side was shown as Evan Hogg, Frank Hollway, Matthew McAreavey and James Nelson all bowled tightly to choke the runs as the innings reached 116 at the close. Micahel, Ben M, George, Will and James all claimed a wicket-a-piece with a brace for Luke.

A good effort from CSNI however the boys kept their composure to claim the win and finish a great season unbeaten as NCU league, cup and All Ireland Cup champions. Thanks to CSNI for the game and Ian Houston for umpiring. Yet again, we were treated to Suzanne Willmott’s baking delights, which along with the quality of cricket, has attracted the crowds this season.
