U11As beat Muckamore in Quoile Cup

The boys produced a competent all round display against a good Muckamore side at Moylena on 23rd May.

James Nelson maintained his perfect record of 100% of losing tosses and Muckamore skipper Luka Bates asked us to bat. The opening pair of James Nelson and Harry Luke started well until Harry offered a straightforward catch with the score on 44 in the 6th over. Matthew McAreavey was shaping up well before being bowled by a quick delivery from the talented Luka. A strong platform had been built at 70 for 2 from 10 overs. James was showing that his hard work over the winter has paid dividends as he timed the ball beautifully with a range of shots. Frank Hollway was happy to play the support role and batted maturely to give James the strike. He paced his innings well and going into the last over, he was on 92 with a great opportunity of a maiden century. Unfortunately he fell to the first ball of the over. This brought big hitting Adam Boyd to the crease to finish the innings with Frank.

James’ innings included 3 x 6, 13 x 4.

The Muckamore reply started conservatively with Marco Bates and James Murray tied down by Lewis Ingram and Charlie O’Connor. The next pairing of Luke Crothers and Frank kept the pressure on with some excellent swing bowling and good tactical field positioning by James. After 10 overs, Muckamore had 38 on the board and the dangerous Luka Bates was still to bat. When the openers retired, the pressure was on the remaining batsmen to score quickly. James capped off an excellent night with a good spell of leg spin. Ben Walsh came back well after a loose first over and Hugo Robinson bowled well after starting nervously. Adam showed that he is another good bowling option with 2 excellent overs of left arm medium pace.

A strong batting performance with James narrowly missing out on a well deserved ton. We managed to use 9 bowlers and the fielders put in a good shift with Matthew looking good behind the stumps, only conceding 4 byes.

Thanks to our loyal band of supporters and to Graham Russell for scoring.
