Midweek back to winning ways

Instonians Midweek beat Civil Service North by 5 wickets last night.

As is tradition, CSN batted first but wickets fell at regular intervals with only M Smyth (Snr) (29)  and A Pattniak (13) getting into double figures.  Ben Alexander took 4 catches, while Graham Higgin took 3 wickets in 1.4 overs without conceeding a run.  The only blemish on our fielding copybook was a missed catch by Neil Jacques that can be directly attributed to poor childhood nutrition.

Chasing a fairly straightforward 87, Instonians made hard work of the reply.  Higgin went first ball to a high full toss that hit the middle stump, while Rick McKibbin continued his poor start to the season playing all round a straight one, making only 7. Paul Dickson steadied the ship making 18 until a leading edge gave mid-on a simple catch.  Ben Alexander was caught on the boundary while looking in great shape, while Niall Alexander heaved at one outside off stump, playing on.

It was left to Richard Black and David Wright to steer the unsteadt ship home with 3.5 overs to spare.

Certainly room for improvment on the batting front for next week.
