4th XI Tie With Muckamore 4th XI

The 4th XI travelled to Moylena in search of league points, coming away with a share of the spoils against Muckamore 4th XI on Sunday 4th August.

Gareth Robinson and Graham Higgin started well and looked comfortable until a bowling change with Gareth falling LBW to the new bowler’s first ball. Ben Crothers looked threatening before holing out. Graham continued to accumulate while James Welshman started to find his range. He made Muckamore pay for a simple dropped catch as he struck the ball hard to take advantage of the back pitch boundaries. The second opportunity came on 96 when he smashed the ball straight to long on however the fielder deflected goalkeeper-style for 6 to allow James to register his maiden ton. An innings of clean striking. James’ strength and hand speed make up for his minimal foot movement. Meanwhile Graham’s more technical approach yielded a quality 69 before he too was adjudged LBW. Tom Crothers finished well to support James.

The inning closed on 231 for 4 from 30 overs although the small boundaries meant that the total was achievable.

Muckamore appeared to be in the driving seat when they only needed 35 runs from 5 overs however bowlers and fielders toiled and going into the last over Muckamore needed 7 to win. An excellent over from Lorcan and a well taken catch by the captain by left Muckamore needing 2 to win from the last ball. A scurried single with a missed run-out opportunity left the scores tied.

A tight game with some quality containment bowling by Gareth and Graham, backed up by the excellent young pairing of Lorcan Donnelly and Tom. Unfortunately no umpiring decisions went in our favour.

Very well done to James Welshman and this was a valuable experience for our young talent.
