U13A reach league play-off final

On Wednesday 7th August, the 13s hosted Muckamore at Shaw’s Bridge emerging convincing winners. The forecast had been monitored throughout the day and following a couple of heavy showers, a dry period looked set.

Jude Keates the Muckamore captain called incorrectly and Tom chose to bat. Despite the early loss of Michael Hollway and George Palmer, Tom and Amy kept the scoreboard moving with a partnership worth 85 in 9 overs before both fell in attacking fashion. Tom for a 24 ball 36 with 1 x 6 and 4 x 4s and Amy for an 18 ball 23 containing 3 x 4s. Ben McCausland started cautiously but punished anything loose and ran well. The Muckamore bowlers tightened up and only conceded 25 runs in the last 5 overs. Ben struck 53 from 34 balls, with 7 x 4s.

In reply Max Willmott and Daniel Henry started tightly with Daniel’s first victim coming courtesy of a well taken Ben Oberholzer catch. Muckamore were always up against the run rate and the unorthodox Stewart clubbed a few boundaries to the leg side although he struggled to score on the off-side. Jude Keates had joined him and looked threatening before charging down the wicket to Michael’s off-break, allowing Ben Oberholzer to notch up another stumping.  Scoreboard pressure was mounting and when Michael had the opener caught, Muckamore were never going to threaten the total. The remaining batsmen struggled to hit boundaries due to a well set field and tight bowling. A tidy spell of off-spin bowling by Michael was rewarded with a 4-wicket haul. Tom brought himself on to grab a wicket in his over.

With the light deteriorating, Muckamore decided enough was enough and decided to leave the field in the interest of player safety. In the circumstances this was the right call with P6 and P7 boys due to bat next in fading light.

Thanks to Muckamore for the game.
