4s complete double over Lisburn 3s

Wallace Park played host to a thrilling 1-wicket victory for the 4s on Saturday 17th August.

The Lisburn innings started well with Rory and Adam struggling for consistency early on. Adam was the more cocnsistent as his spell progressed although Rory made the breakthrough. Lorcan Donnelly’s introduction took some pace off the ball and he bowled full and straight to good effect on the grass wicket. Gareth Robinson recovered well after a loose first over while Andy Hunter bowled his best spell of the season. Once Conor Anderson found his length, he bowled nicely. Lisburn managed 163 from their 30 overs in what was a decent effort in the field.

Despit the early departure of Gareth, Adam and Rory set about the task with intent, with an important partnership. The ball gripped on the grass early on and offered plenty for the bowlers. Following Adam’s departure for a well made 27, the other batsmen struggled to adapt to the wicket. Batsmen came and went as Rory continued to bat nicely. Conor managed to stay with Rory for a few overs in an important partnership, however his departure caused panic in the ranks as Lisburn got their tails up. At 159 for 8 and 5 required to win, Michael Hollway nicked one for four through the slips, only to fall two balls later.

As last man Andy Hunter strode to the wicket, there was an air of anticipation. A miss, a textbook forward defensive and a wild slash later, over was called and he had surived. A wide from the next ball to Rory brought the win and relief to the visitors.

Another excellent innings from Rory showing great temperament under pressure on a seaming pitch.
