Postponement of Fundraising Ball scheduled for Sat 6th Nov

Further to a recent meeting with the Crowne Plaza hotel, Instonians Rugby Committee have taken the difficult decision to once again postpone the fund-raising ball scheduled for Sat 6th Nov. We were holding out in the hope that the event could go ahead but have taken this decision for the following reasons which I hope you will understand –

The hotel have advised that given current rules, we are permitted to have just over 400 people attend. This would mean refunding people as we have already sold more the permitted number

COVID is still very much with us and we do not believe that all of the people who have kindly committed to the event will feel comfortable in a room with 400+ other people just yet.

In keeping with point 2 and as this is a fund-raising event, we need to maximise the number of people attending to cover fixed costs and actually raise some money. The original number we had planned for was 640. The amount that could be generated with 400 people makes the event far less viable.

Finally and very importantly, it is our intention to make this event a ‘night to remember’ and give our guests the very best possible experience. With some of the rules still a little unclear, we felt we could not promise this in early November.

As such, we are now in discussion with the hotel and the line-up of guests to get a date in spring time next year, hopefully end March or early April. I hope to confirm a date within the next week.

Your support and patience to date has been incredible and much appreciated by Instonians RFC. It would be further appreciated if you can bear with us until early next year for what will be a great and most deserved night for us all.

Please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions at this stage.

Many thanks
