1st XV won 47-18 at home to CIYMS 1st XV in the League

After a break last week for the junior cup round 1, the league returned this week with the visit of CIYMS 1st XV.

In the first half CIYMS played with the elements of a strong wind and the autumn sun behind them. They also played with more conviction than the home side.

Instonians seemed to be subdued and leaked two tries and two penalties in the first half. Both tries will lead to work to do on the training park. In return we did apply some pressure and centre Bevan dived over from a clever reverse pass from scrumhalf Matthew Keane.

Halftime 7-18

Not sure what was said in the halftime huddle but the 2nd period was a totally different affair.

Now playing with the wind, sun behind us and with a bit of “fire in the belly!!”

Scored almost immediately from the kick off when pressure led to a lineout in the CIYMS 22, good driving maul and touched down by Neill Saulters.

More possession in the CIYMS 22 led to scrumhalf Matthew Keane dancing his way over for a try.

Good instonians phases led to centre Bevan having space out wide to allow him to break some tackles and score.

Next try came from a dominant Instonians scrum with number 8 Ali Burke touching down.

It was all Instonians and Matthew Keane was on the end of an Ali Burke/David Scott break to get his 2nd try.

Finally Josh Atkinson showed great strength to power over for the final score and 7th try.

Full time 47-18

Matches with CIYMS are always a competitive affair, Saturday showed that if you are not at your best they will punish you.

The return fixture at Belmont should be a cracker.

Next match:

Saturday 6th November

Home to Dromore 1st in the league

Always a tough match

2nd XV – No game

3rd XV – won 45 - 7 home to Randalstown 3rd XV

Another great win for the 3rd XV

That completes the first half of the season with 5 wins from 7 games.

The leagues are the re-organised to have teams playing those of similar ability during the 2nd half of the season.

It will be touch and go if we get a top two finish?

Nevertheless a great first half of the season.
