|4th XI Fall at Semi-final Hurdle|
24th July 2010
The 4th XI failed in their attempt to reach their second successive Minor Qualifying Cup Final. Despite a battling performance they went out at the hands of Academy III at Mallusk by a 3 wlicket margin.
Having been put into bat they started well with an opening stand of 47 between Peter Johnston and Ross Bowie. Unfortunately both got out at the same score and they never recovered but managed to reach 105 all out in 32.2overs. The top batsmen were Peter Johnston with 21 and Steve Hewlett with 18.
After tea Academy III began their reply to an opening attack of John Irvine and Jack Hewlett. John produced a great eight over spell taking 4-14 which, along with two wickets from Jack, rocked Academy and gave the 4th XI a real chance of victory. Change bowler Charles Johnston clean-bowled another batsman to make the score 79-7wks, and the match was in the balance. But Academy batted deep and the eighth wicket pair ended the match in the 25th over to secure a three-wicket win and a place in the final. A brave battling effort from the 4th XI was just not enough on the day.
