Under 11A's beat CIYMS

The boys recorded a 44 run victory at a damp Shaw’s Bridge on Monday 31st July. Despite recent rainfall, the match went ahead straight after the Graham Cup game thanks to “Instonians Groundforce”.

Batting first, Michael Hollway showed his versatility with a well paced innings to register his highest score of the year. He found a solid partner in Tom Crothers and the pair rotated the strike well to keep the score ticking over. Important contributions from Conor Anderson, Luke Beattie and Tom McGale (with a first ball 6) brought the score to 143-4 as the innings closed.

CI’s reply was much improved since our previous encounter, with three batsmen reaching the teens. Our fielding wasn’t up to the normal high standard, however bowlers stuck well to their task with the innings closing on 99-4.
Thanks to Dan and CI for the game and great to see another team deciding to use 10 bowlers to ensure all players are involved.

Interestingly, there were 4 sets on siblings on the Inst side this evening!

Instonians 143-4 T Crothers 35*, M Hollway 29*
Waringstown 59 all out M Hollway 1-14, T Crothers 1-2.

Under 11A's beat Waringstown

The boys recorded an 89 run victory at a damp Shaw’s Bridge on Friday 28th July.
Despite losing Lorcan Donnelly in the third over, Angus and Tom continued their good form with excellent knocks. Ben McCausland and Luke Beattie continued in the same vein before retiring. Boundaries weren’t as forthcoming as usual due to a slower outfield however the boys adapted well. The innings closed on 148.

In reply, the talented Sam Allister struggled for fluency against an accurate attack before being comprehensively bowled by Tom. After the opening pair had departed, wickets fell at regular intervals. All 10 bowlers bowled tightly however it was our youngest player who grabbed some wickets, accounting for the middle order.
Waringstown were bowled out in the 19th over for 59.
Thanks to Andrew Mitchell and his team who had no issue playing despite conditions underfoot.
Thanks also to Martine for player refreshments.

Instonians 148-4 A Carson 32*, T Crothers 30*, B McCausland 30*, L Beattie 29*
Waringstown 59 all out L Crothers 3-5

Under 15B's beat Laurelvale

The 15B’s produced a strong performance to beat Laurelvale by 89 runs on Friday 28th July.

Batting first, the boys started positively with quick scoring from Sam McLarnon and Cameron Johnston setting the tone. Following their departure, Ben Crothers paced his innings well, hitting the ball hard before reaching his 50. Wasim Peake recorded his top score despite an apparent nosebleed, batting at 6! (self described as “a solid 11”)
Young Rory McConnell also made an important contribution.

Chasing 164 was always going to be a big ask. Scoreboard pressure told as wickets fell regularly mostly due to some tight bowling from Sam, TJ Pallin and Andy Hunter who narrowly missed out on his hat-trick.
Laurelvale managed 55 in reply.
Thanks to Wes and his side for the match and to Tommy Luke for taking the boys in my absence.

Instonians 164-5 B Crothers 53*, M Peake 22
Laurelvale 55 all out S McLarnon 2-8, TJ Pallin 4-9, A Hunter 2-1
