Four Home Wins

The good weather on Saturday brought out the best in Instonians with all four teams playing recording victories and all at home as well.

Two Good Wins

5th May 2018

The 1st XI continued their good start to the new season by recording a second league victory against North Down. This was only possible due to North Down agreeing to switch the game from a still damp Shaw's Bridge to The Green at Comber.

Instonians bowled out North Down for 108 and edged through with five wickets to spare in the only Premier League match to beat the weather.

The 4th XI won a hard fought Minor Cup match against Templepatrick II at Osborne Park by the narrow margin of two runs. Put in to bat, Instonians struggled to set a total of 95 all out in their 25 overs, this being due to 23 runs from Tom Johnston, 20 from Jack Dickson, and a crucial last wicket stand of 21 between Sachin Joshi (7no) and Gareth Walker (13).

Templepatrick lost wickets at regular intervals and the required rate increased mainly due to Hugo Ellerby who took 3-7 in four overs and Cameron Williams who took 3-5 in his five overs. Despite a late flurry from Templpatrick, Instonians held on by two runs to go into the second round.

Two Instonians in Test Squad

Two Instonians' players have been included in the squad announced to play Ireland's inaugural Test Match against Pakistan at Malahide, starting on Friday 11th May.

James Shannon and Nathan Smith have been named in the squad of fourteen for the historic first match.

Let's hope at least one of them makes the final eleven.
