From the kick off it was clear that it was going to be a physical encounter. Both sides moved the ball well and tested each other’s defence.

The Instonians set piece started well. Solid at the scrum and gaining much ground from the driving maul.

The first try came from David Scott, bobbling to hold a pass, which distracted the defence and allowed an offload to centre partner Bevan Prinsloo who ran half the pitch to score under the posts. Converted by outhalf Richard McCarthy

Game definitely still on.

Final Score

Instonians 28     Ballyclare 17

The large New Year’s Eve crowd was properly entertained.

Thanks to Ballyclare for the spirit in which the match was played and we wish them good luck in the All Ireland Junior Cup against Clogher Valley, should be a cracker!!

Thanks to the ref for the way he controlled the game.

But our massive thanks goes to the Instonians Coaches and Instonians team, for their efforts over Christmas in preparation for this match and for their gutsy performance that held off a strong Ballyclare side. Same opposition again in the league in two weeks time, at Ballyclare!!
