Well done to the coaches – It’s all about getting people balanced games.

Instonians 1st XV win 46-13 against Lurgan 1st XV in round 1 of the Junior Cup

The final score does not reflect the closeness of the match and the physicality that Lurgan brought to Shawsbridge.

The Lurgan scrum was one of the best we have faced all season, ex Ulster prop Schalk V D Merve being a big part of that.

The Instonians side were dominant in the lineout and moved the ball well.

This high tempo eventually broke down the Lurgan defence, with Instonians scoring two trys in the first half and 5 trys in the 2nd half.

Lurgan never gave up and scored a great try of their own towards the end of the game.

The Lurgan fullback took a serious injury to his leg and we hope he recovers soon.

The match was cheered on by a big crowd, who had been warmed up well at the pre-match lunch.

It was great to hear past Instonian legend Gary Bell, a Lurgan man, entertain those at the lunch.

His quotes I will remember are:

“Peter Russell is the only person I know with a full length photo in his passport!”

“Andy Adair was the first home I knew that had grapes and there was no-one sick!”

Would like to thank the referee for way he allowed the game to flow.

Good luck to Lurgan in their league and maybe we will see each other next season.

2nd XV – No game

3rd XV – won 22 -19 away to CIYMS 2nd XV

Another close match in this closely contested league.

Better numbers at training, more players available certainly helped.

Match could have gone either way.

Well done.
